Snedicor's Unveils Unique Hanger Recycling Program
Recycle Livingston and Snedicor's Cleaners have joined forces to reduce the number of clothes hangers entering the waste stream. Recyclers can return any hangers they have received from Snedicor’s to Recycle Livingston or any Snedicor's Cleaners location or delivery route. In return, Snedicor's Cleaners will donate 5 cents per hanger to Recycle Livingston. These donations will help Recycle Livingston with the ongoing expansion of services.
Snedicor’s Cleaners of Brighton and Howell, and Recycle Livingston have formed a unique partnership to keep these out of landfills and support Recycle Livingston. Jim Gilligan, owner of two stores in Howell and one in Brighton, has had a lifelong interest in recycling and helping the environment. He also promotes helping nonprofits such as Recycle Livingston, the Women’s Resource Center, LACASA, and is a past president of the Howell Rotary. He also helps other dry cleaners make the switch to environmentally friendly cleaning products.
Snedicor’s uses only the highest quality hangers that easily lend themselves to reuse and recycling. Because of this, the 5 cent donation is only applicable to hangers used by Snedicor’s. Free hanger holders are provided to Snedicor's Cleaners customers to help them keep their closets organized and to make recycling easier.
People can drop hangers off either at Recycle Livingston or any of the Snedicor’s locations. Recycle Livingston is open Wednesdays from 12 to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. except for major holidays. Recycle Livingston started in 1989 as a way to get the community involved in recycling. It is located at 170 Catrell approximately one mile east of downtown Howell just behind the Ace Hardware store. If you drop these off at Recycle Livingston, please remember to remove cardboard and paper from any metal hangers that are not from Snedicor's Cleaners. Please reuse wooden and plastic hangers from other cleaners and stores.
Snedicor’s is open Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Locations are 220 S. Michigan and 863 S. Latson Rd. in Howell, and 8688 W. Grand River in Brighton. Hangers can also be returned via one of Snedicor's complimentary pick-up and delivery routes in the area.
Recycle Livingston still needs volunteers on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If they receive many new volunteers, they can expand their hours. If you would like to get good exercise and meet new friends, please call 1-517-548-4439.
