The Shamrock Shimmer, a live and silent auction to benefit the Women's Resource Center in Genoa Township, will include honors for two community gems this year.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. March 14, 2008 at Crystal Gardens in Genoa Township and features dinner, dancing, the auctions and awards for two standout boosters. "We want to honor the person and business that have gone above and beyond in their support of the WRC and our programs," said Mary Rettenmaier, community coordinator for the Women's Resource Center. Buddy Moorehouse, Livingston County Daily Press & Argus metro editor-features, will receive the individual Community Gem award. "Buddy has been our auctioneer and emcee for many years," Rettenmaier said.
Snedicor's Cleaners of Howell and owner, Jim Gilligan, will be honored with the corporate Community Gem award. Snedicor's provides dry cleaning for the agency's Career Boutique and the Cinderella's Closet sale of used prom dresses.
The live auction will get under way after dinner. A number of silent auction items are also available. Closing out the event at 10 p.m. will be a raffle of a trip for two to Ireland. The second prize is dinner for six at O'Callaghan's Traditional Irish Public House in Green Oak Township. The event's major sponsors are Citizens Insurance Co. of America and Fifth Third Bank.
Tickets are available at the Women's Resource Center, the Howell and Brighton area chambers of commerce, and at O'Callaghan's.
